Postsecret

In keeping with my previous post on confessions, this is one posted secret that resonated with me this morning on postsecret.com

I have over 200 friends on FB. I was proud of that for some reason. I've culled a few (9 to be exact) but I still have a heap of people on there. I don't talk to most of them and I don't even know who some of them are (I recognise their names from primary school, but wouldn't know them if they walked past me in the street)

I also have some jealousy when i look at others' 'walls' and they have post upon post. I don't. I have a circle of about 3-4 people  who post on mine. So really, I don't know why we don't just call/text or email each other rather than posting on FB.

So, this is something that I am working on at the moment. I am a friend in reality. I may not be a friend in cyberspace for hundreds of people, but I am a loyal friend in 'real life'.

But I'm still not quite ready to remove my a/c from FB. I enjoy FV too much!

  1. I've found with FB (much like blogging) that you reap what you sow. I have 300 friends, many of whom I hadn't seen for years (old school friends, work colleagues, etc) and whenever I get a new friend request I make the effort to start chatting to that person via their wall. A simple "it's great to see you on here, what have you been up to for the last 15 years" comment has led to some fantastic friendships being rekindled, some even in real life.

  2. I totally agree. I've rekindled some great friendships. I try and post once a fortnight (minimum) on those people that I really want to have a 'proper' friendship with. I've also found a lot of people have gone on to have some of the same life experiences as me and that has really surprised me at times. I think FB is a great platform for keeping up with people.

  3. I'm a bit isolated at the moment and FB has helped me stay sane but I also shake my head and wonder if I really get it. Guys in my team (when I used to bother going to work) would write on each others wall while sitting next each other. It would dive me nuts. Broken neck perhaps and can't look sideways???

  4. Hell.. that would be annoying. I must admit to being in a down place when posting. I am generally grateful for FB - makes it so easy to keep in contact with my international friends... and has keep me grounded with what's happening back home.

  5. i have almost 500 facebook friends. i swear to god, most of them asked me. i have difficulty saying no because i don't want to offend anyone and there's really no harm having them. but i am so, so embarrassed that i have that many facebook friends.
